Angela Lansbury‘s Wild Daughter was Manson Family Drug Zombie!February 16, 1993 - The Globe.
The daughter of TV supersleuth Angela Lansbury was a drug crazed teen who fell under the spell of wild eyed cult killer Charles Manson and roamed California with him!
But instead of being frantic with worry, the Murder She Wreote star supplied underage Deirdre with a letter of approval – in case crazy Charlie got busted for statutory rape.
„Deirdre was one of the jewels in Charlie‘s pack even though she was only 12 or 13 at the timwe,“ reveals top Manson expert ed Sanders.
„To ward off possible jail time, she carried that ‚To-Whom-It-May-Concern‘ note from mom, okaying her association with him.“
Deirdre met Manson when he and his famous family were living in Topanga Canyon, a hippie haven just down the road from Angela‘s Malibu home.
„Malibu was a hotbed of youthful drug abuse in the 60‘s,“ Angela admits.
„To those kids, it was as common as bubblegum. Both my children, Didi and Anthony, became involved, which really shocked me because I didn‘t think it could happen to my own.“
A charismatic „messiah“ – whose followers claimed he was the reincarnation of Jesus Christ – mad Manson collected teenage girls, turned them into sex slaves – and eventually ordered them to kill for him.
He travelled around California in a big black bus with his adoring drug crazed clan, who dubbed themselves the Magical Mistery Tour, after the famous Beatles album.
His bizarre bevy of girls included Patricia Krenwinkel, Leslie Van Houten and Susan Atkins, who are all serving life sentences for the brutal murders of pregnant actress Sharon Tate and six others.
Drugs and Sex
There was also Squeaky Fromme, convicted of trying to kill President Gerald Ford – and Deirdre.
Although Deirdre says she doesn‘t remember her mom‘s letter, investigator Mark Kramer insists: „Didi rode around Southern California in that bus with them, carrying her mother‘s note.
„Travelling in that bus was an experience driven by sex and drugs. A lot of the other girls were minors, too.“
„Sex with underage girls was standard in the Manson gang. That was the big thing, but in those days the cops weren‘t looking for it.“
Angela finally realized the full horror of Deirdre‘s drug addiction and her fatal attraction to Manson – and vowed to save both her children at all costs. „Deirdre and Tony were both on heroin,“ says Angela‘s step-son, David shaw. „they had to have a fix every day.“
„It was really scary. Kids around them were literally dying like flies from overdoses. Three of Tony‘s best friends died.
„And of course, there was Manson. We all met him, a lot of people in Malibu did.“
„He used to come around our house looking for Deirdre.“
Amazingly, it took a blazing inferno to help Angela pry her daughter loose from Manson‘s clutches.
„Our home in Malibu burned to the ground in 1970,“ the 67 year old actress reveals.
„So my husband Peter Shaw and I agreed for the sake of our children to pull up stakes and move to Ireland with with them.
„Peter was willing to give up his career as a theatrical agent for a while, and so was i.““
„We bought a beutiful cottage that we fixed up ourselves. At first, the kids didn‘t like Ireland, but then they began to love it.“
Over and done with
The isolation therapy worked. Now 39, Deirdre is now married and owns Positano, a restaurant in Santa Monica. Tony works with his mom on her hit series.
„I‘m happy now,“ sighs the superstar. „My children are both grown up and living their own lives.“

Angela finalmente realizzo' il grande orrore di un' abuso di droghe da parte di Deirdre e la sua attrzione fatale per Manson - e si promise di salvare entrambi i suoi ragazzi a tutti i costi.
"Deirdre e Tony entrambi erano eroinomani" dice il figliastro di Angela , David Shaw "loro dovevano avere una dose ogni giorno"
"Era veramente spaventoso .Intorno ai loro ragazzi letteralmente morivano come mosche per l'overdose.
all'epoca morirono tre dei migliori amici di Tony.
